1. Twitter ban: A case of 'targeted abuse' on Twitter has ended up with a popular tech editor banned from the social media site. On Tuesday, Milo Yiannopoulos, who writes for the website Breitbart, was banned from Twitter after a campaign of "hate tweets" was launched against actress Leslie Jones who stars in the revamped "Ghostbusters" film. Yiannopoulos violated "rules prohibiting participating in or inciting targeted abuse of individuals," according to Twitter. Jones was targeted in tweets Monday following the release of the movie over the weekend. The movie has been the subject of attacks since it was announced that it would feature an all-female main cast.
2. Marshall dies: Garry Marshall, the man who created 1970s TV hits "Happy Days" and "Laverne and Shirley," and directed such films as "Pretty Woman," and "Runaway Bride," has died. A prolific writer and director, Marshall suffered a stroke and died Tuesday in Los Angeles of complications of pneumonia. He was 81.
3. Convention continues: It's day 3 of the Republican National Convention, and Donald Trump's running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, is set to address the convention. Trump and Pence became the official candidates of the Republican Party on Tuesday after the roll call vote. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who fought Trump during the primary season, will speak Wednesday night, as will Newt Gingrich and Eric Trump, Donald Trump's third child.
4. It's hot: The country is about to feel the heat as temperatures are forecast to soar over the next few days. Sixteen states are under heat advisories in advance of weather expected to produce temperatures in the 100s when the heat index is factored in. People are being urged to check on neighbors and make sure outdoor pets are provided shade and water.
5. Is Ailes out: Several media outlets are reporting that Fox News CEO Roger Ailes is leaving the network in the wake of sexual harassment allegations. Ailes, who lead Fox News to becoming the most watched news channel in the country, could be leaving as soon as the end of the week. Former Fox host Gretchen Carlson has accused Ailes of sexual harassment. She claims her contract was not renewed with the network because she refused Ailes' advances.
