What to know now:

1. GOP debate demands: Representatives of the candidates for the Republican nomination for president met Sunday to come up with a series of demands that would have to be met in order for them to take part in future televised debates. The meeting grew out of dissatisfaction over questions from CNBC moderators in last week's debate in Colorado. The list of demands included opening and closing statements, approval of any graphics used in the debate and "parity and integrity" in questioning.

2. Royals take the series: The Kansas City Royals staged a daring comeback Sunday night to push the 5th game of the World Series into extra innings an win the championship 7-2. It took 12 innings and was the Royals first championship since 1985.

3. Fred Thompson dies: Fred Thompson, who went from lawyer to senator to actor to presidential candidate, died Sunday in Tennessee. Thompson, who had been part of the Watergate investigation as a young lawyer, had played himself in the movie "Marie," leading him to other movie roles and a part on TV's "Law and Order." He left that show to run for president in 2008. Thompson was 73.

4.  Race in jury selection: The U.S. Supreme Court will be reviewing the case of a black man convicted of murdering a white woman in Georgia in 1987 after he was found guilty by an all-white jury. The Supreme Court will consider how jury selection is conducted in American criminal trials. The defendant in this case, Timothy Foster, was sentenced to death for the murder.

5. Russian plane crash: The black boxes from a Russian passenger jet that appeared to break apart over Egypt this weekend have been recovered. Russian investigators are on scene trying to determine what happened to the plane only minutes after it took off. One airline official said there is no evidence of  a mechanical  problem nor pilot error. Two hundred and twenty-four people were killed.

The former caddie of golf legend Tiger Woods has written a book about his former boss claiming he was treated at times "like I was his slave." Steve Williams said in an interview Sunday that he was "hung out to dry" with the revelation of Woods' extramarital affairs in 2009. Williams said he became "absolutely miserable" as people suggested he knew about Woods' affairs or had some part in helping the golfer cheat on his wife.

In case you missed it

The ACC announced Sunday that it is suspending the referee crew from Saturday's Miami-Duke football game after a wild finish that, on review, didn't exactly end as it was called. Eight laterals on a kickoff return as time expired got Miami into the end zone for the win, but the refs missed a few things along the way, as the playback shows. The win, 30-27, still stands. For now, at least.
