What to know now:
1. Bergdahl facing court-martial: The commander of U.S. Army Forces has ordered Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl to face a court-martial on charges of desertion and endangering fellow soldiers. Bergdahl, who had been captured by the Taliban when he left his post in Iraq in 2009, was turned over in exchange for the release of five Taliban fighters who were being held at the Guantanamo Bay detention center. The decision contradicts the original order that Bergdahl be referred to a special court-martial and face no jail time.
2. GOP debate: Donald Trump will be standing at center stage once more Tuesday night as candidates for the Republican nomination for president meet for a debate in Las Vegas. Texas senator Ted Cruz has move up in the polls during the past week, challenging Trump's lead in Iowa. The "prime time" debate begins at 8:30 p.m. (ET). An earlier debate will see four GOP candidates whose poll numbers were not strong enough to get them on the main stage.
3. The Force Awakens: The long-awaited next installment in the "Star War" franchise had its world premiere Monday, complete with Stormtroopers, lightsabers and Hollywood's elite. The seventh film in the series -- "The Force Awakens" -- opens this week in theaters everywhere.
4. Cosby sues: Bill Cosby's attorney says the comedian is suing seven women who say he sexually molested them. Cosby claims the women are lying for financial gain and have damaged his reputation. The women, who are among more than 50 who have accused Cosby of sexually assaulting them, sued Cosby in 2014 after he said they were lying when they said he assaulted them.
5. Pete's out: Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred announced Monday that former baseball great Pete Rose would not now, nor ever, be inducted into the sport's hall of fame. Rose, who set records still not broken in his time with the Cincinnati Reds, was caught betting on games in which he played and in which he coached as he retired from playing and went into managing the team.
And one more
A new study appears to show a connection between children born with autism and their mother’s use of antidepressants during pregnancy. According to the study published Monday in JAMA Pediatrics, mothers who took the drugs in the last six months of pregnancy were 87 percent more likely to have a child later diagnosed with autism. The study showed no increased risk in babies born with autism if the mother took the drugs during the first three months of her pregnancy.
