One California state agency is cutting employees' pay for the time they're in the bathroom.
Managers at the Sacramento Department of Motor Vehicles call center say workers are spending too much time in the restroom and not enough time working. The supervisors are concerned that employees might not be focusing enough time on their workplace tasks.
Pay is to be withheld from employees that spend more than seven minutes on bathroom breaks.
According to SEIU Local 1000, one employee has already filed a grievance.
"The DMV is aware of a grievance filed by the union and the DMV is in the process of preparing a response. The DMV takes these matters seriously and is looking into the allegations," said DMV spokesman Jaime Garza.
Outspoken residents in the area criticized the policy.
"You might have issues going on that day, you know, or be sick," said Susan Morris.
