Ian Rapoport, of the NFL Network, reported that Gronkowski will "strongly consider retirement after this year," according to people close to the Patriots tight end.

Rapoport said those close to Gronkowski are wondering "if he'll go the other way this time," after returning to the Patriots following last year's Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Patriots are in the midst of a playoff run, as they advanced to the AFC title game to play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
