Tip led to arrests in baby killing
Police in Georgia say an anonymous tip helped them make arrests in the shooting death of baby who was killed in a stroller. The Brunswick Police Department said Sunday they received a tip that someone was crouched in the back seat of a vehicle as it drove away from the shooting Thursday. The Glynn County detective’s division spent hours following up on the tip and eventually arrested a 14-year-old suspect. The boy’s statements led them to take De’Marquise Elkins, 17, into custody. Elkins is charged with murder in the death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago.

Mom, sons improving after sign incident
A woman and two of her sons were improving Sunday after being seriously injured when a flight information billboard fell on them at an airport. A third son was killed Friday when the electronic board, weighing at least 300 pounds, fell from a wall at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. The boys’ mother, Heather Bresette, had broken ankles and a crushed pelvis. Luke Bresette, 10, was killed. His brother, 5-year-old Tyler, suffered a concussion. His 8-year-old brother, Sam, had a broken leg and nose. Tyler was released from a children’s hospital Sunday.

Girl walks for help after crash kills dad
A 9-year-old girl crawled out of a mangled SUV, climbed out of a canyon and walked about a mile about 1 a.m. Sunday to find help after surviving a highway crash that killed her father in Southern California, authorities said. The SUV fell about 200 feet down an embankment, California Highway Patrol Officer Cheyenne Quesada said. The girl freed herself and walked through rugged terrain to a nearby home, but nobody answered the door, the CHP said. She then hiked up the steep embankment and along the road to a commuter rail station where she flagged down a motorist about 2:30 a.m. She was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

Gay couple wins wedding contest
A same-sex couple is getting their dream wedding courtesy of a Maine magazine. Real Maine Weddings said Jenna Eagleton and Caroline Currie were chosen Sunday from three finalist couples at the Maine Wedding Association Bridal Show in Freeport. The $100,000 prize includes the reception, a wedding dress, tuxedos, rings, flowers and limousine service. The Portland couple plans to wed in October. Same-sex couples have been allowed to marry in Maine since December.

Museum unlikely to reopen this year
The Ellis Island Immigration Museum, which suffered severe damage from Superstorm Sandy, is not expected to reopen to the public this year, the National Park Service said. The Oct. 29 storm bought water levels as high as 8 feet to Ellis Island, adjacent to the home of the Statue of Liberty, destroying boilers and electrical systems. Spokeswoman Linda Friar said Sunday the site was still without power.

Endangered giraffe born at center
A rare, nearly 6-foot-tall giraffe listed as an endangered subspecies was born in a Connecticut conservation center. The Greenwich Time reported that Petal, a 6-year-old Rothschild giraffe, gave birth on Friday to female calf. Marcella Leone, founder and director of the center, said the young animal is curious, approaching humans early on in its first days of life. The calf is the first born at the conservation center.
