A South Carolina man, charged with taping the mouth of a dog shut, been granted a $50,000 bond.

According to WCSC, William Leonard Dodson was arrested Monday night, charged with taping the muzzle of his Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix.

Dodson was issued a $50,000 bond and was ordered to surrender a second dog.

WCSC cited court documents that claim that Dodson bought the dog, known as "Diamond" at the time and now known as "Caitlyn," for $20 on May 25.  A witness told investigators that Dodson went to the woman who sold him the dog, telling her that he taped the animal's mouth shut with electrical tape because the dog would not stop barking.

Caitlyn has been receiving treatment to help repair and save damaged tissue and has progressed from being fed via an IV to eating solid food the Charleston Animal Society reported on its Facebook page.

It was previously reported that he had been released on bond.  That is incorrect.  He is currently housed in Al Cannon Detention Center.
