A wildlife encounter at an Albuquerque zoo left one toddler with facial injuries.

The incident took place at the city's BioPark, KOAT reports. The zoo allows peacocks to roam freely through the facility, which allows visitors to get a better view of the magnificent feather displays.

Eloy Padilla says his son was with a group of youngsters when the attack occurred.

Zoo officials speculate that the peacock became agitated after it felt that it was being cornered, and that triggered the attack on the toddler, who sustained facial injuries.

The free-range policy for peacocks will be reassessed by BioPark officials following the incident.

A fun day at the zoo turned scary for one little boy, who was cut on his face by a free-roaming peacock.
