The FDA has issued recalls for nine brands of dry dog food, according to a report.
The FDA received complaints that dogs eating various dog food brands, including some flavors from Old Glory, suffered vitamin D toxicity. Symptoms of this condition include vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, drooling, increased thirst or urination or seizures.
According to PetMD, vitamin D is important for regulating the calcium and phosphorous balance in your dog's body. However, excessive vitamin D can cause life-threatening conditions, including kidney failure.
If your pet is displaying these symptoms and has eaten from the listed brands, do not wait to take them in. PetMD says saving a dog’s life after vitamin D toxicity “requires immediate treatment.”
