A North Carolina father says he and his son had to fight off a shark after it bit his teenage son.
WGHP in North Carolina reported Tim Arthur was swimming with his 16-year-old son and daughter about 25 miles from shore near Salvo, North Carolina, on Thursday.
Arthur heard his son’s scream while fighting the shark, he told the local news station. He said the shark was biting his son’s thigh as his son tried to hit the shark with his hand.
The father said he swam over, kicking and punching the shark. The shark eventually let go once Arthur kicked it in the nose, the station reported.
Arthur said there were more than 40 teeth marks on his son’s leg.
WGHP reported the teen was taken to a hospital and required 17 stitches after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
The teen was released from the hospital Friday. He is using crutches.
The family said it plans to spend a few more days at the beach before heading home to Oak Ridge, North Carolina.
