Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has decided to skip Thursday’s Republican debate because of a beef with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, but he’s not giving up his 9 p.m. (ET) time spot.
Instead of debating with other candidates for the GOP nomination for president, Trump will host a "Special Event to Benefit Veterans Organizations."
The event will be held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, only a few miles from where the Republican debate will take place. According to Trump’s campaign, there will be a pre-program at 8 p.m. (ET), and the main event will start at 9 p.m. (ET) -- the same time as the debate.
It will be broadcast on CNN (CNN is on: DirecTV - channel 202; Dish Network - channel 200; ATT U-verse - channel 202) and go.CNN.com on mobile devices.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee announced Thursday afternooon on Twitter that he would attend Donald Trump's event to benefit veterans after his appearance in Fox’s “early” debate.
Later, former Sen. Rick Santorum, also running for the Republican presidential nomination, announced he, too, will attend Trump's event.
Trump has posted a form for the public to donate to veterans' causes. Click here to see it.
