When the daughter of a fallen deputy got married over the weekend, his colleagues came out to fill his shoes on the special day.
Deputy Walter "Kent" Munell, Jr. was killed in the line of duty in 2009 after responding to a domestic dispute. He served 10 years with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department in Washington.
Six years after his death, his daughter, Kirsten, married the man of her dreams in Bonney Lake, Washington. According to the photographer's Facebook post, four deputies came out to make sure Kirsten's wedding was was extra special.
Family friend Don Jones walked Kirsten down the aisle.
Later, when Jones started dancing with Kirsten during the father-daughter dance, someone tapped her on the shoulder asking to cut in. It was an entire line of her dad’s former colleagues, wanting to make the night even more special. They each took turns dancing with Kirsten during the traditional father-daughter dance.
At the ceremony, the family reserved a seat for their fallen father.
Wedding photographer Angela Lyons said she’s happy that she could share their touching story.
“I think it’s easy to forget that officers are real people who put their lives on the line,” wrote Lyons.
She also said that she glad Kirsten ended up with such a loving man.
“She will never dance alone,” said Lyons.
