A large cargo plane crashed near the Birmingham, Ala. airport on Wednesday morning.

The ABC  affiliate reported roads closed surrounding the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth airport and hazmat crews called to the scene.

A photographer for ABC 33/40 on the scene said it was a UPS cargo plane. Video posted on Twitter from the airport tarmac showed a large fire ball in the distance.

ABC News reported a debris field of more than a half-mile and intense flames at the crash site.
