The owner of The Yesterday Cafe in Greensboro died Friday from an accidental drowning in her pool, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

Teresa “Teri” Bragg, 60, was found dead at her home by cafe employees who had gone there to check on her after she failed to arrive at work, the news outlet reported.

Bragg opened The Yesterday Cafe in 2005 and became known for her buttermilk pies.

Carey Williams, editor at The Greensboro Herald, told the Banner-Herald about the time country music star Carrie Underwood ordered 500 of Bragg’s famous pies after her wedding at nearby Lake Oconee.

“They stayed up all night making 500 pies,” Williams recalled.

Underwood was one among many fans. Southern Living magazine once named Bragg’s buttermilk pie one of the best in the South, and other well-known figures would often stop by The Yesterday Cafe, including University of Georgia football coach Kirby Smart, the Banner-Herald reported.

Williams said Bragg was well-liked — and not just for her food and famous pies.

“She was particular about everything and wanted every meal to be served to the customer’s satisfaction,” he said.
