NEWTON — The police chief of a southwest Georgia city was arrested Tuesday on three counts of aggravated assault stemming from a 2019 domestic incident.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Arlington Police Chief Cora Baker, 39, was charged in a Dec. 3 indictment in Baker County. She was booked into the Calhoun County Jail, the GBI said in its news release.
Investigators said the incident leading to Baker’s arrest occurred March 5, 2019, and involved Baker and Timothy Hatten. At the time of the incident, Baker was a deputy with the Terrell County Sheriff’s Office.
A Baker County grand jury also indicted Hatten on charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and battery. He is in custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections for an unrelated probation violation, the GBI said. Further details were not released, WALB-TV reported.
It was not immediately known if Baker or Hatten had attorneys who could comment for them.
