The City of Morrow will begin its search for a new top cop after the city manager dismissed its police chief just five months into the job.

Melvin Douglas Jr. was fired Thursday. Interim City Manager Sylvia Redic said Friday she does not intend to publicly give a reason for his ouster.

Douglas was appointed last August. He was still within the city’s standard one-year job probationary period.

Redic said the job will be posted next week and that there is no firm timetable to hire a new chief.

“We’ll start from scratch,” she said.

Capt. Greg Tatroe will serve as interim chief, Redic said.
