The city of Milton is looking to further its green space preservation efforts by creating a new subdivision zoning category.

The Milton City Council Monday night unanimously approved an agreement with Town Planning and Design LLC to develop a “conservation subdivision” ordinance.

The agreement would grant developers more flexibility in how they plan and lay out neighborhoods, in return for the developer’s agreeing to preserve more green space, city officials said. A number of other Georgia communities already have such designations.

Town Planning and Design officials will hold a public meeting 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at Milton City Hall, 13000 Deerfield Parkway, to discuss the concept and gather public feedback.
