Authorities have identified a man and woman critically wounded early Friday in a shooting that happened just a block from Atlanta police headquarters.
The victims were shot about 2 a.m. while sitting in a sport utility vehicle in a parking lot at the downtown intersection of Peachtree Street and Trinity Avenue.
Police told Channel 2 Action News that Shakira Gillam and Tyrone Gates were inside a green Lincoln Navigator when both were shot at least three times each. The gunman fired shots into the vehicle from the rear and driver’s side.
“We do know that this is an area where we do see people parked here after hours, but not sure what their business was this time of the morning,” Atlanta police Capt. Terrell Griffin told Channel 2.
The victims were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to the station.
