A man killed after he was struck crossing Metropolitan Parkway Friday night has been identified as Bernard Moore, 62, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Moore was struck around 9:30 p.m. as he was crossing the road near Fair Drive in southwest Atlanta.

According to Atlanta police the officer was on routine patrol traveling northbound on Metropolitan Parkway. The officer approached the top of an incline near Fair Drive and continued down the opposite side when a pedestrian who was attempting to cross was struck. He was taken to Grady Hospital where he died.

The name of the officer was not released.

Investigators told the television station the officer was not responding to a call or using lights and sirens. Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach said police told him Moore was more than 100 feet from the closest intersection.

“The individual was not in a crosswalk and the officer was just on routine patrol,” said Atlanta police deputy chief Darryl Tolleson.

The Atlanta Police Accident Response Team has taken the lead on the investigation.
