An Atlanta man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for shooting and killing another man near Grady Hospital, the Fulton County District Attorney said Tuesday. The March 2014 incident was caught on surveillance cameras, the DA said.

Melvin Moss, 59, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and weapons offenses for the death of 35-year-old Antonio Diggs, DA Paul Howard’s office said. Diggs was shot and killed on March 20, 2014, as he walked home from a pharmacy, according to investigators.

Diggs and a housemate from a group home were approached by Moss on the street, and Diggs and Moss began to argue, according to witnesses and police. When the two reached Moss’ car, Moss reached in and grabbed gun, Howard said.

The two men struggled, and Moss shot Diggs in the chest, according to investigators. As Diggs tried to run away, Moss fired a second shot. Diggs collapsed on Armstrong Street and was taken to nearby Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Witnesses later identified Moss as the shooter in a photographic lineup. The shooting was also captured on surveillance video cameras in the area. When an arrest warrant was issued for Moss, he was already in jail on traffic charges, police said. He was later transferred from the City Jail to the Fulton County jail, where he has been held without bond.

On Tuesday, Moss was sentenced to 35 years, to serve 15 in prison.
