Georgia Tech police have arrested a man they say inappropriately touched two women on campus Monday evening.

John Perry Smith, 43, was booked into the Fulton County Jail and is awaiting a bond hearing, Georgia Tech spokesman Matt Nagel said Thursday evening. Smith was booked on two misdemeanor charges of sexual battery.

Officials Monday night released a safety alert that said a female student had been walking behind Brittain Dining Hall near Williams Street NW earlier in the evening when a man approached her from behind, reached under her skirt and touched her. On Tuesday, they said a second woman came forward after the alert was released, saying that as she walked up a flight of stairs, a man was walking down the stairs, then acted like he was falling into her, grabbing her in the process. That woman's incident occurred minutes before the other reported incident, with both occurrences only a few blocks apart.

The women had similar descriptions of the suspect, leading police to believe the acts were committed by the same man.

Nagel said numerous tips from the public led to Smith’s arrest.
