Cobb fire investigators have charged a man with arson in connection with a condominium complex blaze Friday morning that sent two people to the hospital and displaced 10 families.

Steven Patrick Fuller, 34, was charged with one count of arson-endangerment, the Cobb department of public safety said.

The blaze was reported just before 8:30 a.m. at the Bentley Ridge Condominiums.

Arriving crews found flames shooting from the roof of a building at the complex on St. Augustine Trail, off Bentley Road, just south of Delk Road.

Cobb fire Lt. Dan Dupree told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that firefighters rescued two people from an adjacent unit, “one down a ladder and one was able to get out through the front door.”

Both were conscious, alert and walking, and were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

Dupree said it took firefighters about 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The 10-unit building is an older structure and had no fire sprinklers, he said.

“With the way this fire progressed rapidly, we’re very fortunate that we didn’t have any serious injuries or deaths,” Dupree said.
