People ran for cover at Cumberland Mall Saturday afternoon when shooting began.

Metro Atlanta isn’t the only urban area plagued by mall shootings days before Christmas.

On Monday, in Mobile, Alabama, an officer confronted an armed suspect inside a Dillard's department store. As the officer was detaining the man, a gun reportedly fell to the floor and discharged a single shot.

The suspect escaped from the arresting officer and fled the scene.

Out West, a man allegedly opened fire in the parking lot of Desert Sky Mall in Phoenix. Witnesses said the suspect, according to AZfamily.com, was shot to death by police when he allegedly tried to carjack a woman in the mall's parking lot.

Police said a man and a woman, both unidentified, were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No other fatalities were reported.

In Elizabeth, New Jersey, social media reports recounted a possible shooting inside the Mills at Jersey Gardens, reports that, thankfully, turned out to be a false alarm.

The towns of Elizabeth and Jersey City, where only weeks ago two people went on an hours-long deadly shooting spree, are only 13 miles apart.

On Saturday, for the second time in a week, gunfire erupted at a metro Atlanta mall filled with holiday shoppers.

A Macy's employee was shot in the stomach after refusing to hand over her keys during an attempted carjacking in the Lenox Square parking deck.

The victim was treated at the hospital and released Saturday evening.

On Dec. 14, holiday shoppers in Cobb County scrambled for cover as shots rang out in the Cumberland Mall food court. The shooting was the result of an argument between two people in the food court.

Two suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the Cumberland Mall shooting.

On Dec. 19, one person was shot in the stomach at Penn Square Mall in Oklahoma City.

Members of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder were at the mall when the shooting happened, but no one affiliated with the team was injured.

One suspect, accused of shooting another man during an argument inside the mall, has been arrested and jailed on $500,000 bond after surrendering to police.

That same day, four people were shot in San Antonio. Police still are looking for a suspect in connection with the South Park Mall incident.
