A tree tore through Brenda Shreve’s home in Macon right after she instinctively got up from bed, escaping harm during severe storms early Monday.

"I was in the bed, and God told me to get up. But I got up, and right when I went out I heard it hit," Shreve told WGXA.

She described hearing the crashing noise as a tree fell on her roof. She and her daughter found refuge in a hallway until rain started leaking through the ceiling.

The home on Huddersfield Road suffered extensive damage.

Shreve and her daughter were unhurt, as well as a cross that stood in their front yard for Easter.

“It means God took care of us and protected us. We had our sunrise service there yesterday. So all this can be replaced, so I’m very thankful,” she said.

Macon endured a severe weather front that moved through much of Georgia overnight.

The strong winds that brought a tree down through Shreve's home also damaged other houses in the same subdivision. A Walgreens also suffered damage, reported Macon.com.
