Woodstock has announced a major renovation of the gazebo at The Park at City Center, with the roof and much of the wooden structure renovated.

“Most of the structure will be completely rebuilt,” said Preston Pooser, parks and recreation director for Woodstock. “It was important to me that the final design and appearance of the gazebo is as close to the original design as possible.”

The gazebo was constructed in 1996 when the park was built and has been the site of weddings, marriage proposals and city ceremonies, officials said. It also was the home of the Woodstock Summer Concert Series until the completion of the Northside Hospital Cherokee Amphitheater.

The City Council in January awarded a $42,119 contract to Astra Construction Services LLC to rebuild the gazebo, with the aim of making it last another 25 years. The renovation is to be completed in mid-March, weather permitting. While the gazebo will be closed to the public, the park will remain open.
