The stretch of road leading to the city’s popular Old Rope Mill Park is getting a new name.

The Woodstock City Council voted Sept. 28 to change the portion of Rope Mill Road starting at Ridgewalk Parkway and leading into the park, a less than 2-mile segment, to Old Rope Mill Park Road.

City Clerk Rhonda Pezzello said the change was made because Rope Mill Road, which had started at Main Street and run uninterrupted north into the park area, was chopped in two with the building of the Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta mall and construction on Ridgewalk Parkway.

She said the change was made to eliminate confusion over having two sections of Rope Mill Road that didn’t join together.

Pezzello said signage for the new stretch will be updated in the next week or two. She said no businesses or homes are affected by the change currently, but that a new Kia dealership has been in the planning stages there.
