The Woodstock Planning Commission will consider a major mixed-use development near the three-year-old Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta mall and Ridgewalk Parkway at its April 7 meeting.

An attorney representing developer Horizon Group Properties (which also developed the mall) sketched out general elements of the proposed Ridgewalk Center development at the March 3 commission meeting.

Costco will be the central element of the roughly 70-acre site, which will also feature retail and restaurant space, a 320-unit multi-family residential building, a gas station and park and recreational space.

A recent public input meeting drew residents from an adjacent neighborhood who expressed concern about the traffic the project would generate, said Attorney Parks Huff. A Costco representative who spoke to commission members indicated its portion of the development could create 200 jobs.

The plan is expected to go before the full Woodstock City Council in late April.
