The Woodstock Police Department is offering the lobby or exterior of police headquarters as a “transaction safe place” for those doing online buying and selling.
The move follows a recent series of crimes involving Craigslist transactions, including a Jan. 29 incident in Woodstock. Police said Jose Diaz-Gutirrez 17, of Forest Park, was arrested after he allegedly tried to steal a car during a roadside meeting resulting from a Craigslist ad.
In addition to offering their physical digs,Woodstock officials said an officer can stand by during bargaining. Police can also check serial numbers of merchandise to ensure it’s not stolen.
Residents interested in the service can call Woodstock Police at 770-592-6030 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or 678-493-4080 (the Cherokee dispatch center, after hours). Department offices are at 12453 Ga. 92.
