An academic specializing in government finance at Georgia State University will join the city of Woodstock as its new chief financial officer.
Ron Shelby most recently was assistant director of the Center for State and Local Finance at GSU, where he built, managed and taught an executive education program in public finance, according to a Woodstock announcement.
While his first official day in Woodstock is Feb. 20, he will participate in this weekend's City Council retreat, officials said. Information: https://bit.ly/2OpXFyB
Prior to GSU, Shelby spent 13 years in finance in Galveston, Texas, rising to the position of director of finance and administration, budget officer and investment officer.
He has a master’s in finance and an MBA with a human resource management concentration from the University of Houston at Clear Lake, and a bachelor’s in economics from Stanford University. Shelby said he missed “the actual day-to-day work of government. … I don’t like simply watching government, I prefer participating in it.”
A reception to welcome Shelby to Woodstock is set for 6 p.m. Monday, March 9, prior to the regular City Council meeting in the Chambers at City Center.
