The Woodstock City Council Monday night reviewed options for improving the city’s increasingly jammed downtown parking.

Officials are considering a downtown-wide valet parking program. Currently, only two downtown businesses, both restaurants, offer valet services, said Economic Development Director Brian Stockton. The city is trying to open up two private lots with about 150 spaces that would be used for the valet service, which would be managed by the Downtown Development Authority, Stockton said.

A downtown parking committee comprised of city officials, downtown businesses and residents might be set up, said Stockton adding the group could coordinate managing parking for business deliveries and setting aside spots for employee parking.

The economic head said downtown interests have been reluctant to move forward with metered parking, which was recommended in a 2012 study.
