A controversial proposal to allow a major auto repair-collision center business on a busy thoroughfare won approval from the Woodstock City Council Monday night after being tabled in December.
On a 5-1 vote, the council approved a conditional use permit requested by developer Steve Peek of Peek Commercial Properties for the site at 11075 Ga. 92.
City staffers had recommended denial, citing its location on a major road and its non-compliance with long-term planning goals for the area. The property is a large office and warehouse facility that previously housed a heating and air-conditioning business.
The council approved the proposal with several conditions, under which the property owner will screen the business with trees and other landscaping and erect a tall privacy fence.
Monday night’s meeting also saw the swearing-in of council members David Potts (Ward 2) Tracy K. Collins (Ward 4) and Rob Usher (Ward 6), all elected in November.
