A Cobb County woman says she wrecked her SUV on Interstate 75 while trying to miss a tire that flew off a trailer being pulled by a van.

The tire hit another car along the same stretch of road.

"I was just praying, 'Please don't hit anybody else,' and everything just kind of spun around," said Elizabeth Janowiak.

When she came to a stop, Janowiak says her Hummer was a crumpled mess.

Janowiak told Channel 2's Carl Willis she was left bruised, cut by glass and hit by the airbag.

Witnesses say the van and trailer responsible for the wreck drove off.

"It just breaks my heart because you don't know the extent of the injuries,"Janowiak said.

Witnesses say the driver was in a dark-colored van hauling a large trailer.

The trailer lost a wheel near exit 263 along Georgia 120 and hit a family's vehicle then flew toward Janowiak's SUV, causing her to swerve and hit a median.

"The minute I hit the wall, they said the other vehicle took off, dragging the trailer with sparks up I-75," Janowiak said.

The driver took the exit and left the trailer at a gas station on South Marietta Parkway.

But police say the driver actually called the next day, admitting to seeing the crash but claiming he didn't know that his tire was the cause.

"Do they have any regard for human beings or life?" Janowiak said.

Police say the man did exchange information with one driver whose vehicle was damaged.

The van driver was cited for reckless driving, improper operation of a vehicle and for not having a tag on the trailer.

Police said the incident is still being investigated.
