Woman, 52, killed in fire at DeKalb home

A woman who had recently had surgery died in a house fire in DeKalb County on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Natalie Porter, 52, was on oxygen, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Crews were called to the scene in the 5400 block of Timor Trail just before 3 p.m.

There was heavy smoke and flames when crews arrived, Deputy Chief Norman Augustin with DeKalb fire said.

“We had people on the outside telling us someone was trapped,” he said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the woman was non-ambulatory and on oxygen, Augustin said.

A caregiver also was inside the home when the fire started in the woman’s bedroom, Channel 2 said.

No other injuries were reported.
