A New Year's Day house fire killed a woman in northwest Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News reported Friday.
Witnesses told Channel 2 they saw a man running from the house with his clothes on fire. A woman in the house, said to be the man's wife, was still inside when Atlanta Fire & Rescue arrived.
"She was not breathing, she was not conscious," Sgt. Cortez Stafford told Channel 2. "We immediately started doing CPR on her."
Both victims were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where the woman later died, Channel 2 said.
Neither of the fire victims was identified.
Fire officials said they believe some kind of heating device caused the fire.
"There was a heating element, propane fueled, that was too close to the couch," Stafford said.
