Witnesses saw a 29-year-old Snellville man drowning at Lake Lanier just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Officials found the Robert St. Louis of Snellville, 20 feet deep in water near Van Pugh North Day Use on Lake Lanier.

Hall County Fire Services got a call about the St. Louis’ drowning about 5:20 p.m. and found the body nearly an hour later.

This is the fifth body found in Lake Lanier in two months.

On April 3, officials found Estelle Kouassi, 18, after she was reported missing by her principal. Kouassi was later identified using dental records.

Firefighter Jason Blalock, 37, was missing for nearly a week before he was found April 28. Missing boater Jerry Kornmeier, 57, was found about a week later on May 9.

Lizeth Ruiz, 23, was found a day after the search for her body was suspended.

The string of bodies missing along Lake Lanier only adds to its deadly reputation. Since 1994, at least 143 people have died in the lake, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

This year’s incidents are not included in that number.
