Friday’s wintry weather will be long gone by Saturday, leaving dry conditions for road crews working on the top-end Perimeter and elsewhere across metro Atlanta.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting sunny skies Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

The state Department of Transportation said motorists can expect weekend roadwork to block the three right lanes of I-285 westbound east of Powers Ferry Road as well as the ramp from I-75 southbound to I-285 westbound, from 9 p.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Saturday.

The left lane of I-285 westbound will be closed from Ashford Dunwoody Road to Riverside Drive, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.

Other weekend roadwork could close a lane in each direction on Ga. 400 through Buckhead.

In downtown Atlanta, Decatur Street will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic in both directions between Central and Piedmont avenues from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday while crews replace cooling towers on top of the Georgia State University library.

Several major events will bring thousands of spectators and participants into downtown Atlanta this weekend.

The Hawks play the Celtics Friday night at Philips Arena, and the Georgia Dome hosts the Honda Battle of the Bands at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, next door to the Dome, the Cheersport Atlanta Grand Championship will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Georgia World Congress Center.
