Don’t be fooled by weekend temperatures that approached 70 degrees; forecasters are predicting a return to winter by later this week.
Overnight lows will be back below freezing and afternoon highs will be about 20 degrees cooler than over the weekend. There’s even a chance of a wintry mix of precipitation across far north Georgia.
“We had such nice weather this weekend,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. “But we’re going to be taking those temperatures down a few notches each day this week.
Minton said highs will be in the mid-60s Monday and Tuesday, with lows early Tuesday in the mid-40s.
A 40 percent of rain is forecast for Tuesday night, diminishing to 20 percent Wednesday morning, when lows will be around 40.
The wintery mix is possible Tuesday night into early Wednesday north of a line from Rome to Helen, with light accumulations possible at elevations above 1,500 feet, the National Weather Service said.
Metro Atlanta’s highs Wednesday will only reach the mid-40s, Minton said, then it’s back into the deep freeze, with lows around 23 forecast for early Thursday.
Afternoon highs Thursday will be in the low 50s, according to Minton.
