Thanks to zoning ordinances that restrict food truck operation in Sugar Hill, mobile restaurants are not often seen there.
But, after a plan to conduct research on zoning ordinance amendments was approved during the city council work session Tuesday, that may soon change.
The suggestion came in response to requests from food truck operators who wish to conduct business more regularly in the city. As it stands now, they're only allowed to operate twice a year through temporary events on private property, or during city-sponsored events.
Planning director Kaipo Awana told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that an ideal policy would be responsive to the community, clear and easy to enforce.
The planning staff will need to weigh issues such as limitations on location and frequency. It will also need to determine how broad support is from the community and business owners with permanent locations, Awana said.
A new policy could be in place by the end of the year.
