The mercury dipped below freezing across all of metro Atlanta early Wednesday, and deep into the 20s in some areas, but forecasters are promising warmer weather by the upcoming Easter weekend.
Temperatures before daybreak Wednesday ranged from 26 in Dallas and 27 in Marietta and Alpharetta to 30 downtown and at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Those readings were about 20 degrees below normal, but were well above the record low for the date of 16, set in 1955.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said highs Wednesday should top out in the mid-50s, about a dozen or so degrees warmer than Tuesday’s chilly high of 42.
Sunny skies are forecast for the rest of the work week, with highs of 60 Thursday and 64 Sunday and lows in the mid- to upper 30s.
Minton’s weekend forecast is for a 30 percent chance of rain Saturday, with highs around 67 and lows around 46. The chance of rain increases to 50 percent on Easter Sunday, when highs will again be around 67.
