After a two-week hiatus, weekend interstate road work resumes Friday night with a vengeance, especially on the top-end Perimeter, where multiple ramp and lane closures are planned.

Resurfacing will shut down various lanes of I-285 in both directions between Paces Ferry and Chamblee Dunwoody roads, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.

Several ramps in the Cobb Cloverleaf area will also be shut down for construction this weekend. Included are the ramps from I-75 northbound to I-285 eastbound and westbound, the Windy Hill Road ramp to I-75 southbound and the Cumberland Boulevard ramps to I-285 eastbound and westbound.

Doug Turnbull in the AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center said to expect “major delays” in the area, and to plan alternate routes.

Turnbull also said very heavy traffic can be expected on I-75 northbound south of Atlanta, “anywhere between Macon and Stockbridge,” as spring breakers return home from Florida.

“Plan plenty of extra time for travel in this corridor,” Turnbull advised.

All of the planned construction is weather-permitting, and with sunny skies forecast for most of the weekend, the roadwork will be a go.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is predicting sunny skies for Saturday and much of Sunday, although there is a slight chance of showers Sunday evening.

Highs will be in the low 70s, with lows in the mid-40s to low 50s.

That forecast will be ideal for the Atlanta Humane Society’s 23rd annual Pet Parade, which kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday at Atlantic Station.

Also this weekend, the Hawks play Milwaukee Friday night at Philips Arena.
