Plenty of sunshine is on tap for metro Atlanta on Saturday, with skies becoming partly cloudy on Sunday, but no rain in sight until early next week.

Expect “mostly sunny skies through the afternoon, this evening will be clear and warm with comfortable temperatures late into the evening and overnight,” said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.

Weekend highs will remain in the upper 80s, with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Nitz said.

Dry weather means road construction is underway, at least on a couple of metro interstates.

Road crews planned to once again shut down several lanes of I-285 in each direction between Riverside Drive and Ga. 400, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.

The other major construction zones will be on I-20 eastbound west of Lee Road, where the left lane will be blocked from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and I-285 southbound between Cascade Road and Langford Parkway, where a couple of lanes will be blocked most of the weekend.

Those projects are weather-permitting, and the weather should be just about perfect for road work.

Events downtown this weekend include Saturday’s 2 p.m. Georgia State University football game against Chattanooga at the Georgia Dome. Next door at Philips Arena, the Dream-Phoenix women’s basketball game tips off at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Georgia Bulldogs play South Carolina at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Sanford Stadium in Athens, and Stone Mountain Park hosts the annual Yellow Daisy Festival through Sunday.
