Commemorate 9/11 elsewhere around metro Atlanta
Sunday will be the 15th time Georgians, and the rest of the nation, will come together to mourn of the loss suffered during the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center.
Cities across Cobb County are hosting public vigils and commemorative events to honor the thousands who were killed.
Here's how to join:
9/11 Field Of Flags (Kennesaw)
- The weekend-long event starts Friday night with a concert and ends after the Sunday morning church service in which the names of those killed will be read aloud.
- To purchase concert tables and flags or sign up to participate in the procession go to 911fieldofflags.com or contact Pat Huey at 770-432-1760.
- Friday from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. – Freedom Concert at the Square in Marietta, 50 N. Park Square, featuring the Time Bandits
- Saturday at 9:30 a.m. – Gathering for flag procession
- Saturday at 10 a.m. – Flag processional from Grace Community Church, 770 Kennesaw Ave., to Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield, 900 Kennesaw Mountain Drive
- Sunday at 8:00 a.m. – Memorial service at the mountain
Terry Fund GA 2016 Memorial Stair Climb (Marietta)
- Runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, but the climbing starts at 1 p.m.
- Registration is $30.
- Participants will climb 110 stories of an office building at 3200 Windy Hill Road SE to commemorate the heroes who lost their lives to save others on 9/11.
- The event is described as being for the whole family with a bounce house, food and a fire truck pull competition.
Barber Elementary's "A Day of Rememberance" (Acworth)
- There is a short reception before the ceremony, which starts about 9 a.m.
- The event will be at Barber Elementary School, 4222 Cantrell Road in Acworth.
- There well be a bagpipe processional. Atlanta Braves tenor Timothy Miller will sing the national anthem and a World Trade center first responder will speak.
Go see a flag that was flown at the World Trade Center (Marietta)
- Retired New York firefighter Danny Fink offered the flag that was once flown at the World Trade Center during 9/11 to Cobb County officials. The flag was retired on May 15, 2002.
- It will be flown this week at Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services Headquarters, 1595 County Services Parkway in Marietta.
