The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 17 to enter into a technical assistance agreement with the Atlanta Regional Commission to participate with other affected local governments in water supply issues involving the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee Flint River Basin and Alabama-Coosa Tallapoosa River Basins.

Along with the City of Atlanta, the Cobb-Marietta Water Authority, Dekalb and Atlanta-Fulton County Water Resources Commission, Gwinnett will pay $800,000 to participate in the agreement for the ARC to represent them in proceedings affecting the water supply. As a result the ARC will continue to manage technical and legal research in disputes to protect the mutual interests of those relying on the Chattahoochee River, Lake Lanier and Allatoona Lake as the primary sources of drinking water.
