Milton’s city manager is heading south. Chris Lagerbloom announced that he’s accepted a position as assistant city manager in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Lagerbloom has been with the city for nine years, first as director of public safety, then interim manager and then as city manager. As the head of police and fire, he oversaw the initial deployment of public safety officers following the city’s creation. Officials said he also oversaw creation and adoption of the city’s first strategic plan in 2011.

The veteran manager’s last day in Milton will be Feb. 12.

City officials are promising a comprehensive search to find a replacement in coming months.
