Metro Atlantans awoke Monday to the coolest temperatures since last spring, and forecasters are predicting unseasonably cool weather for much of the work week.
The mercury dipped into the upper 30s in the far northwestern suburbs before daybreak, and was in the low 40s across much of area early Monday.
Readings ranged from 39 in Dallas and Cartersville, 41 in Dunwoody and Alpharetta and 42 in Peachtree City to 51 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
In the mountains, Blairsville reported 34 and Calhoun 36.
Atlanta’s normal low for Oct. 21 is 52, the normal high 71.
While afternoon highs will be about normal Monday and Tuesday, Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley is predicting much cooler weather starting on Wednesday, with morning lows dipping back into the low 40s by week’s end.
Chandley is forecasting highs of 61 Wednesday, 64 Thursday and 60 Friday, with afternoon temperatures rebounding into the mid-60s over the weekend.
If metro Atlanta gets any rain this week, it will be on Tuesday, when Chandley is forecasting a 20 percent chance of showers.
