Buford Commissioners voted Monday to hold a special municipal election March 17 to decide if the city should obtain $35 million in general-obligation bonds to build a new high school. The city has $14 million in sales tax funds sitting in escrow, and another $8 million in growth funds already available for the estimated $50 million project.

The commission also approved the purchase of 22 acres from the American Legion to add to 25 acres the city has already set aside for the school. If voters approve the additional funding, construction will move forward with plans for the middle school to ultimately move into the current high school facility.
