Registered Cobb County voters decided Tuesday to extend the Cobb/Marietta Education Special Local Option Sales Tax and selected Kerry Minervini to serve Ward Six on the Marietta School Board.

The extension of E-SPLOST is expected to yield $797,022,000 for the Cobb County School District and $62,486,000 for Marietta City Schools over five years, beginning Jan. 1, 2019 for building improvements, land acquisition, equipment, safety, security and technology systems.

For E-SPLOST, 73.85 percent voted in favor or 25,106.

Opposed to E-SPLOST were 8,888 residents or 26.15 percent.

Minervini received 52.42 percent or 206 votes to 47.33 percent or 186 votes for Patricia Echols and one write-in vote.

With her term ending Dec. 31, Minervini was chosen to fill the unexpired term of Tom Cheater who resigned.

Of the 444,676 registered voters in Cobb, 34,038 cast ballots, amounting to 7.65 percent.
