Two people were shot in the gut during an incident in northeast Atlanta around noon Monday.

Police were called to 1944 Piedmont Circle on a report of a person shot, and when they got there, they found two men with gunshot wounds to the stomach, said Sgt. Curtis Davenport of the Atlanta Police Department. He said the victims survived the attack.

The incident occurred in the InTown Suites Extended Stay hotel, near I-85 and Piedmont Road.

Officers found one male in a hotel room with two shots to the stomach, Davenport said. The other male victim was in the lobby with one gunshot wound in the stomach, he said.

Both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and rushed to surgery. One of the victims is named Jeffery Wheeler, the sergeant said. The other has not been identified.

There was no immediate word on the motive behind the shootings. Neither victim was able to describe the shooter, Davenport said.
