Two shot at alleged suspected gambling house in West End

Police find gambling operation after robbery, shooting

Two people were shot and wounded early Tuesday at a suspected illegal gambling house in West End, Atlanta police said.

When officers arrived to investigate the 12:15 a.m. shooting on Lee Street at Poole Place in southwest Atlanta, they found illegal gambling machines and tables inside, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“It appears to be some type of gambling house,” Atlanta police Capt. Scott Kreher said.

The station reported that the business was full of people when a three-man robbing crew entered with guns drawn.

Kreher said one man was shot in the leg and a second victim was shot in the stomach.

“It appears to be a robbery,” Kreher told Channel 2. “They robbed each customer inside along with shooting the security guard and one of the customers.”

A third person inside the gambling house suffered a heart attack after police arrived, Kreher told the station.

The names and conditions of those injured were not immediately available.
