Two breweries in Roswell are teaming up for what they hope will be a tasty beverage.

Gate City Brewing Company and Variant Brewing have collaborated on a new beer called “Walking Distance” that will be unveiled on Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. It will be available in the tasting rooms of both breweries that day, in pints and crowlers, until 9 p.m.

Instead of seeing each other as rivals in the beer business, the two breweries partnered on this beer to celebrate brewing in Roswell. According to a Facebook page for the event, "Walking Distance" is "a special kettle-soured Bière de Garde brewed together and fruited separately."

Both Gate City and Variant's versions of "Walking Distance" will be a little different. Both feature guava, but Gate City added passion fruit, while Variant brewed its with dragonfruit. An Instagram post for the beer says both feature "malty sweetness with a moderate tartness and tons of tropical fruit."

Merchandise will be on sale for the special release, with glassware and shirts ranging from $5 to $20. There is a limited amount of beer and merchandise available.

Gate City is at 43 Magnolia Street, while Variant is at 66 Norcross Street. They are less than a half-mile from each other, making “Walking Distance” the perfect name for their collaboration.

Variant is one of the newer breweries in north Fulton County, first opening in November 2017. Gate City was Roswell’s first brewery, founded in 2014.
